Double Demerits now in force

NSW police are warning holiday makers to stay alert as many of us prepare to hit the roads this long weekend.

With operation Stay Alert coming into force at midnight, police across the state will be targeting all speeding, mobile phone, seatbelt and motorcycle/helmet offences. Motorists found in breach will be slapped with double demerit points, in a move authorities hope will reduce the risk of fatalities on the roads.

So far this year 165 people have lost their lives on NSW roads, and Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott had this plea to motorists:

“Drivers need to be vigilant, tragedy can strike anywhere, at any time”

“Don’t become insulated in your own invincibility, be alert and remain mindful of drivers around you – drive to survive.”

The guys and gals in blue will be out on the roads all weekend. So from the team here at 2RS to all residents across the regions: drive safe, stop for breaks, and arrive at your destination in one piece.
