State Of Origin Sides Announced For Game 2

NSW Head Coach Brad Fittler and QLD Head Coach Billy Slater have announced their squads to travel to Perth for Game 2 of the 2022 State of Origin.

QLD took a 1-0 series lead after a gritty 16-10 win over the Blues in Sydney just weeks ago.

Injuries and COVID have affected both camps as both coaches have made changes for the game this Sunday night, with Fittler making seven changes from the loss in Game 1.

2020 Dally M Award winner Jack Wighton is unavailable due to COVID protocols and his partner on the opposite centre, Kotoni Staggs also is a withdrawal with an injury. Parramatta Eels pairing Reegan Campbell-Gillard and Ryan Matterson have been left out of the squad as well as St George Illawarra forward Tariq Sims.

Matt Burton is set to make his State of Origin debut in the centres with Stephen Crichton playing next to Daniel Tupou on the right edge.

Apisai Koroisau also comes into the starting lineup, pushing Rabbitohs hooker Damien Cook to the bench and Jake Trbojevic returns to the squad for the first time since the 2021 series opener.

It’s a little bit less shifting around for Slater’s QLD side, as Murray Taulagi is named to make his debut on the wing, coming in for the injured Xavier Coates.

Ruben Cotter’s hamstring injury rules him out of Game 2 after a stellar performance in Sydney, he’ll be replaced by Rabbitohs forward Jai Arrow who moves to the bench.

State of Origin Game 2 kicks off this Sunday night at 7:50pm (AEST) at Optus Stadium, Perth.
