Sandon Point Swells
A crowd gathered at Sandon Point on Sunday as adrenaline seeking surfers took on challenging swell amidst a warning from the Bureau of Meteorology.
The warning, prompted by a Tasman low, highlighted the potential dangers for rock fishers and swimmers along the Hunter to Far South Coast coastline.
Waves exceeding five meters were forecasted to cause significant beach erosion on south-facing shores, with conditions expected to persist until early Tuesday, June 18.
Responding to the news of powerful waves, skilled surfers rushed to the favoured surf breaks of the Illawarra.
Anna Warr, a photographer for the Illawarra Mercury, was on hand at Sandon Point, capturing all the thrilling action.
