Sitting Down Take on the Gong

From the Northern Steel City, Sitting Down are the next band you should be adding to your ‘must listen’ playlist. They’ve just released their second EP ‘Taking Off’, which takes the listener on a journey down a psychedelic rabbit hole teeming with lush synths, wild riffs, kinetic percussion, and introspective lyrics. This EP marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Psych-Pop 4 piece, showcasing a more mature sound than their 2022 EP.

As a part of this new release the band are taking the EP on tour down the east coast. You can catch them on their ‘Taking Off Tour’ from late June to early August. But most importantly they’re stopping off at the North Gong Hotel, right here in the Illawarra on the 2nd of July.

With the continued rise of east coast psychedelia, Sitting Down have given us a new EP which sits comfortably in this canon alongside The Lazy Eyes, the Illawarra’s own Tropical Strength and the mighty King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.

Drummer Cat Hoscher says of the EP “this collection of songs were the first pieces we wrote collaboratively together as a whole, which makes Taking Off in some ways even more exciting to release into the world than our debut EP”.

Here on 2NRS, we caught up with guitarist Lewis Nickel to find out why you should catch them at the North Gong Hotel as a part of their tour. Listen below to the interview:
